Michael Plank Testifies to Royal Commission of Inquiry
Professor Michael Plank, an applied mathematician from the University of Canterbury, testified to the Royal Commission of Inquiry on Friday 11 July 2025.
He was asked to talk about his covid-19 mathematical models. You can read the published work here and here.
Covid modelling is harmful and has been roundly discredited, for example the underlying assumptions around infection fatality rates and vaccine efficacy.
Dr Raphael Lataster concludes in his Metacritique of Influential Studies Purporting COVID-19 Vaccine Successes: Part 1 – Watson et al, “Watson et al has been central in shaping the dominant narrative that covid-19 vaccines have saved tens of millions of lives worldwide. However, a closer examination reveals a web of flawed methodological assumptions, unsupported estimates, and under-discussed risks—factors that substantially undermine this conclusion.”
My youngest son, who was about 20 at the time, couldn’t go back to college because he didn’t get the Miracle Vaccine. He came to me and said something like this: “Dad, I have been doing the maths and my chances of dying is 0.01%, and that’s assuming I catch the infection”. He did catch it as did the rest of us, and I can advise that we are all still alive.
Surely the best action would have been to let healthy young people like my son get the infection naturally, while protecting the elderly and vulnerable, thus quickly achieving “herd” immunity? Of course, supporting our population in healthy ways. At the time, I proposed the “Kiwi Pill” – investing in the health of all New Zealanders.

As I write this, I am listening to the softball questions for Prof Plank and the unquestioning acceptance of his answers.
Instead of “planking” our economy, there were far better options than what the good Professor Plank promoted.
The country’s debt situation is consequently awful, with government debt nearing 300 billion and growing by 3 million per hour!

As NZ slides down the economic plughole, just how many lives is this going to cost. The Professor could get out his abacus and model that for us?
This is all guesswork and doesn’t appear to have any factual evidence to back it up at all. How can he even be giving evidence when he has no evidence?
He needs to do some modelling on how many people died from the vaccine and not from the flu (covid) another paid puppet.
I think young people were in the minds of the shapeshifters and modellers suspected of spreading the virus, if that is what it is. I think that the young should have been allowed to get on with their normal business and that would have kept schools universities and many businesses owned by younger people going. Only the really old suffering from breathing difficulties or other serious so called co-morbidities needed to be protected extra carefully. Carefully protecting all of us was a huge over reach and was used by the government to wield undue power. Government loves power and especially that kind of power.
