Don’t Mess With Genetics: Dr Matt Shelton’s Speech Against the Gene Technology Bill
“Kill this bill before it kills more of us.” Dr Matt Shelton, NZDSOS steering committee member, delivers a powerful speech at Parliament on 4 November 2024, opposing New Zealand’s controversial Gene Technology Bill.
Speaking on behalf of those potentially already genetically modified by covid mRNA products, Dr Shelton warns that this legislation represents a dangerous dismantling of safety protections – the very safeguards that were ignored during the covid era with devastating consequences. He questions how New Zealanders can trust authorities who abandoned their posts when fear arrived, who declared products “zero risk” whilst conducting zero safety monitoring, and who now gaslight the gene tech injured.
Referencing Red Remembrance Day (15 November) -marking the day in 2021 when untested gene technology was forced into unwilling arms – Dr Shelton argues the bill isn’t worth fixing because its intentions are fundamentally dangerous. He challenges politicians to show the maturity and wisdom needed to recognise this threat, and to stop treating New Zealand’s population as a “sandpit” for biotech investors to play in.
