How Valuable is Your Right to Decline Medical Treatment?
Our personal and medical freedoms to live our life as free individuals is of utmost value and importance to all New Zealanders. Seeing this come under threat, in March 2022 New Zealand Doctors Speaking Out With Science NZDSOS (healthcare) and New Zealand Teachers Speaking Out With Science NZTSOS (education) brought the case to court to challenge whether a vaccination mandate breached the Bill of Rights Act 1990, and specifically Section 11, the Right to Refuse to Undergo A Medical Treatment.
The High Court decision of Justice Cooke decided it was “reasonable and demonstrably justified” for the government to override the Bill of Rights by mandating the vaccination for those in the healthcare and education professions.
This critical decision is extremely important for everyone in New Zealander for it has set a precedent that the government can override our once sacrosanct Bill of Rights document enshrined in our country’s history to protect the civil and political rights of all New Zealanders.
New Zealand Teachers Speaking Out With Science NZTSOS are now appealing Justice Cooke’s decision, which affects every New Zealanders freedoms.
